    O2 sensor or Cat

My check engine light came on and I had my buddy plug his tool into my car and it said that it was the cat that was going. I was wondering if I changed my O2 sensor if that would clear the code or should I just suck it up and replace the cat. My car runs fine, but the check engine light is bugging me. lol.
    I have a 97 LX 1.8.

just to clarify that, you have an LX right? LX's came with 1.5 engines.
