Sweet. I just got back from the pull a part just a short while ago. i picked pu the tranny. It came out of a 95 Protege ES. The bell housing and case look pretty good. It shifts from gear to gear like butter; however, it was jacked up and not running. The car has 165,000 miles on it. I am so excited. I can't wait to do the swap. I just need to get the rest of the pieces to move forward with the conversion.
Here are the parts that I will be getting for the build.
Fidanza Three Point Two Clutch Kit.
Fidanza Lightweight Aluminum Flywheel.
MS ECU
LSD if funds permit.
Not sure about the engine yet.

according to EPC only the early 1994 producation date ES had a G tranny, 1995 already shows F tranny.
note this is a production date, not the actual model year or the year the car was imported (don't know the US policy, EU always advertises model year). for example my car is 1995 but is actually one of the earlier cars rolled from production. it was actually built in November 1994. it's 159,951st piece from the line so I assume the G trannies were dropped somewhere between 200k-300k on the VIN plate, since 300k+ all had F trannies.
if you're uncertain about specific car, let me know the VIN number and I'll hook you up with details.Garage: Mazda Protege 1995, Z5 engine, MTX, P/S, no A/C, no ABS.
PM me if you need: comprehensive Autodata information; Mazda's 2nd generation workshop manual; Mazda's Z5 overhaul workshop manual.

hey just wondering if someone can help out. im changing the timing belt on my bpt gtx and im wondering how exactly do the cam gears go? like the marks. like for the intake cam gear is the (I) mark straight up from the cam gear bolt? i have a haynes manual for the 1991-1996 escort GT 1.8L(BP) and it says they have to be straight up. is the BPT and the BP 1991-1996 the exact same?? sorry for the dumb question
