    Squeeky Alt. Belt?

    Cold or hot start ups, every single start the car squeeks for a good 15 seconds. If I have the heat on while I start the same thing happens, but if I start with the heat on, then turn off the heat the squeeking goes away. I've heard that the stop squeek products in the market only worsen or shorten your belt life.. Is this true? If yes, what other options do I have?

    Found out its probably my pully.. Its most likely all polished and useless now.

        Yeah, I would suggest check the condition of the belt and if that is ok, just tighten it. The alternator adjuster should be visible from the passenger side, closest to you.

          after getting my dx from my inlaws a few years back i have had the same issue, recently i got fed up with replacing belts and checked the pulley alignment. The alternator is set back almost 3/16" causing the belt to bind. Only way i can see to fix this is take the bracket out and grind the holes to make the alignment proper.

            And those belt sprays are junk. The belts are meant to be used without any lubrication, did the error of spraying them, and then it had major belt slippage until it almost cooked them.

              i have had this happen on two proteges. belts looked good when in reality they were not good at all. replaced the belts and retighten and all is good. what happens is that the belt wears out in the groove and ends up with no grip on the pulley no matter how tight you make it. just doesnt have enough surface contact inside the v groove.
