Trying to fix my car

What the hell is the pulley directly below the power steering pump? Whatever it is it doesn't spin, can anyone point me to where I can find a replacement for dirt cheap? I desperately need it to pass inspection so I can drive it again.

1.5 I think, it's a DX.

Here's a pic, the rusted one, there's a plate on that pulley that will spin freely, but the pulley itself doesn't.

That's your a/c pulley. The bearing for the pulley might have gone bad. That's what happened to mine. I don't think it's important for an inspection. I'd say until you get a replacement pulley, get a belt for your car/engine without a/c. The belt will go around just the crank and power steering.

Got any ideas on one that would fit that? I know I'm asking for a lot done but I just don't know this car at all and my time with this car has not been enjoyable.

Forgot to mention, I failed inspection without that belt. Didn't realize it was a pulley that locked up before, but the belt came off, saw it was nothing vital, kept on cruising, go for inspection, they fail me for it. FUUUUUUU!

Without that belt you lose your power steering, which they probably consider "unsafe", therefore they fail you. I'm at work right now, but can find the part number when I get home. I got my power steering/no a/c belt from Advance Auto Parts.

I need one to bypass that a/c pulley. I can't believe that not having power steering is "unsafe" now, considering it was once an option and still something people pull off their cars.

take a piece of string and wrap it around the pulleys w/o the a/c...so your power steering and the other one...measure the length of your string...go to any autoparts store and ask for the belt to a specific length or close enough...then throw it on and tighten it down using your power steering pulley

did this on my 96 protege

They make a belt specifically for a 1.5L Protege without a/c. Just tell the auto parts store the year, trim/engine and WITHOUT a/c. They should have the correct belt waiting on a shelf.

I thought the dx without a/c had another idler pulley, that would make the belt still too long, might be mistaken though. Has been quite some time since i have seen one.

No, DX and LX have the same engine. It's just the crank and power steering pulley for a car without a/c.
