The BP tach equipped cluster and the Z5 tach equipped cluster are different
There were 3 clusters available for the 97-98

    Z5 Tach 6500rpm Redline
    Z5 No-Tach
    BP Tach 7000rpm Redline

I would say the trim (DX, LX, SE, ES) but it differs between USA and Canada
If he has the 7000rpm Redline, the car either originally had a BP or the previous owners swapped clusters. If thats the case then you may be a victim of odometer fraud.

I guess you're right. The part numbers are different.

is there any way to adjust the digital odometer reading that you all know of in order to swap the readings to keep the accurate reading.

damn mazda96protege you need to clean your battery crud off like I did before your car just dies on you one day

What kind of pcv valve r u using? Looks diff from mine.

rusty there isn't a way that I'm aware to adjust the digital odo reading. If there is it won't be easy.

haha yeh that has happened to me before, but my terminals are good and somewhat cleaned but in the pic you can see the piece thats holding the battery does have ALOT of crud on it lol

And my PCV Valve is stock. I havent done anything to it......... maybe its because yours is a 98 and mine is a 96? not sure though

well thanks guys for the info, I might have to go yard shopping soon. I really want a tach. I really don't care wether 6500 or 7grand tach. Just having a tach would be nice. I may shoot for the 7grand tach though for giggles. When I get one I may just have to see if the odometer can be flashed to reset the milage, I would like it to read the same as the one I currently have. If I ever get around to it and find a answer on flashing the reading I will let you all know.
