okay, that's interesting....mine looks like the front half of "8" on top and the back half of the "8" on the bottom. No big cat.

could be the cat and resonator, they look pretty similar

could be the res. Im doing the same thing, I bought the straight pipe (in fact from the same site) and replacing the precat with it, and then getting a hi flow for the other. I just picked up a pro series muffler yesterday from VTR. I always get hooked up there.

How can I make my exhaust manifold to exhaust piping identical to the 2nd Gen protege ES model (1.8L BP engine), which has no stupid pre-cat? (Wiring changes, parts to get from ES ??)

I'm still getting the P0421 error code even after I replaced my Exhaust Manifold. And yes there was a hairline crack in my old manifold. I suspect that the pre cat is the one giving me the problem. I already replaced both O2 sensors, & primary cat.

The ideas people have thrown around in this thread is like reinventing something that already exist for our car.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Damn, I was hoping you'd have a big success story and instructions so we can rid ourselves of the useless precat.

What's error 140? (I'm at work and my book of codes is at home)
