    performance for protege

i was wondering if anyone here knows any ways i could improve the acceleration or speed of my 97 protege LX with a 1.5 liter engine, such as different parts or accesories that might work.
    thanks

Put simply if you search for it you will find it.

Many have asked this same question so there are plenty of answers you can find. You might be dissapointed though. Not much you can do to improve on the Z5 that would really make a big impact.

True cold air intake (you'll have to DIY), a +1/4" exhaust, an MSD ignition, blaster coil, performance wires, grounding kit, and Mazdaspeed cam gears are the most you can do as far as basic mods that will improve engine performance a bit, mostly just by increasing efficiency. Also fix everything back up to tip top shape and make sure it's tuned properly and everything.

        Welcome to the Forum.

The only way to improve the acceleration or the speed of your Protege is to lighten it and/or increase its HP. There are only two ways to increase its HP: improve its volumetric efficiency and/or improve its thermal efficiency. To discover how to carry out these improvements, do exactly as loganss suggested.

gut everything out of the back half of your car
and do ahome made turbocharger setup.

what are cam gears going to do on a motor that has the cams slaved together?

You can adjust the timing of the cams.

they aren't independent, so it's really not useful

did we ever figure out when it went to independent cams for the 1.5?

I would have to agree with the others on this one, start with intake, exhaust, and igntion. Of course it all depends on what kind of power you are wanting to make. If you want to make alot of power you may want to pioneer your own turbo for the z5.

I am pretty sure they found the vin where the cams became independent. It was some time in the late 97 model year.

Well, Mazdaspeed makes cam gears, so I just assumed that the in-house tuner knew what they were doing..
