State inspections might differ from state to state, but basically it covers all of the cars basic functions, tires, shocks, major leaks, cracked windows, excessive rust, and on and on. Many small things can get you denied, and you can't drive with out one. Cops catch outdated stickers fast. Also, in some states, like Cali and Mass you have to pass emissions.

Edwin is right the 95 here didn't even have the obd2 dataport just the smecs dataport under the hood.

I'll correct myself some 2 gen never had the port ,because i thought they did till I checked one a couple of months ago and it never had one. Also off topic but did the US have both the 2gen as Protege and the 1 gen as Protege S in 95.

Protege S was the 1 gen Protege in 95 ,You must have seen one in Ont. before . In 95 the 2 gen came out but Mazda also released the 1 gen ,so we had a Protege(2gen) and a Protege S (1gen) . In 96 the 1 gen was gone and so the Protege S was dropped. I'll take a pic of one tomorrow at work and show you the Protege S badge.

No the 95 Protege was available in Canada in the following models :
2gen bodystyle dx, es and gt (not sure if there was a lx) models
                  1gen bodystyle s model
and to add to the confusion the 323 :
2gen dx and es models(some call them Neo)
1 gen 323 s model( old baseball hat on wheels - just a discription no insult intended)
In96 the S models were dropped
Did I make it any clearer or F**k you up all together?

Well hey, I dunno about the american models, but here in New Zealand, I have a '94 familia, which is directly a 95 protege dx. Therefore if america got the protege a year later, maybe canada got it another year later
