That 323 is one of the strongest cars I have ever had before in my life. I think stronger than my 87 Jetta...

            -------------------------------------------------------------------------

But anyway, I managed to pull down the rear once again.
I took a trip upstate and filled the trunk with 4 spare 14" steelies.(like what protege menace has) I needed these because they 13's are of no use to me anymore and I needed a minimum of a 14" wheel. ES brake upgrade for front end coming soon.

Anyway.. I proceded to install my ebrake cables in the protege. I got them from a 1st gen. I managed to get the drivers side in and hooked up the passenger side, but did not fully complete it. (will tonight).

            -----------------------------------------------------
            2nd gen cars.
I don't think this rear disc swap would be to hard for most to complete, it's just a bit more advanced. You will just have to have whoever removes the discs off the 1st gen get that lateral link bolt out. It is gauranteed to be seized. Once that bolt is pulled from the drum and the disc. You can put the suspension back together and proceed. If the bolt is broken, New ones will have to be sourced from Junkyards.

            1st gen cars.
This swap should be extra simple for 1st gen Protege's.
            Think of it like this.
You purchase the rear discs from a LX 1st gen and make sure to take the whole spindle, w/rotors,caliper, full brake line. You also take the lateral links,
Just unbolt them from the point where they connect to the subframe.

Unattach the rear links from the Subframe and disconnect the brake line. Take out the bolts for the shocks. Pull out the Hub. and slip in the other full Hub assembly..
            123 your done.

Hey! Isn't this a rear disc on a gen2?.... see attached.

Yup, there are some 4 of us with the gen1 disc to drum swap here and I think it was from us that Bruce was inspired to follow his heart and pull it off.

Works really well... good thing for us we didn't have to toil like Bruce did as labor is cheap this side of the Pacific. My cheers to Bruce!

Where did you get the brake cable from? We usually use those for the 626. Can you check if there are slotted rotors for those... beter yet oversized for both front and rear.

I just had slotted rotors (RS Works, Japan) installed on my front with Project U pads and the grip is really good.

Wait you mean to tell me that you guys didn't get the es rear brakes and es big front brakes stock..
I got this idea one day while at a junkyard.. I knew I wanted discs really bad and I knew the 1st and 2nd gen rear suspension was somewhat similar at the bolt points..
Shoot I am glad to see that you guys are pulling this off also..

Total cost for evertying was 129.00
ohh I got the ebrakes from a 1st gen 90-94 protege lx... I knew a girl parting her car out. So I took the cams (for my regrinds), center console and the Ebrake lines. I also got the mirror for my 323...

Hey Andy you have to email me .. We need to talk about some stuff..

As for big rotors. I am not sure. I have not looked around but I can talk to a few companies and see what can be done.
I know corksport sells the metal braded lines for the 1st gen protege and they will fit on our cars (as long as we have discs all the way around.

I also know that mazdaspeedwest was doing a group buy for the 1st gens also for the lx type brakes all around..

                --------------------

I have the front spindles for a escort also with the calipers and the discs.. I am going to turn the calipers in and get some rebuilt ones, but not before sending them to a friend for powder coating.

I also have a proportioning valve on the way from an lx.. I am trying to get the protege brakes as "juke sharp" as the 323's are.

I will be putting my cross/slotted rotors on ebay to be sold once all is done, and getting a nother set of slotted rotors for the pro ..

ok.. check ya later,, I gotta study

whoa! that's a lot of cash to pay for a pair of rotors. Maybe if it was $1000 for a set of four I wouldn't mind.

its actually for the front brake kit not just the rotors alone.

so rotors, calipers, pads, brake lines, etc.
but yeah 1300$ is a bit much

Do you have any more info on the 13" brake kit? That price isn't out of line with what other brake kits cost. I didn't see any mention of it on their website.
