my 2 inch drop for my 2gen i think is enough cos when ever i parked next to my mazdaspeed you can clearly see the difference from roof line to bumper. Makes the car looks wider too. I havent scrape to anything yet but I guess I just have to really be careful.

I'm almost 2 inch dropped, and I do scrape around often entering and exiting some places, even if I'm careful... but man, for the ride, it's worth it.

Looks good, now I know I can go 2.25" with the B+Gs and still keep it practical

btw Rusty, about the coilovers: get the Mazdaspeed adjustable dampers with Ground Control sleeves..pick a medium spring rate and adujst the damping and you will have a soft enough ride =) ...for a lot of money

Nice info fireguy, Once I get around to it I think I will just go some chassis tech full coilovers and pick my spring rate for the setup. They custom make each pair for $379. These are 3" adjustable as well.

Good call, just remember to get appropriate dampers. KYB GR-2 is not strong enough for stiff springs or big drops. Look into at least the KYB AGX.

I have recently put 17"s on my z5 and would like to drop it 2" seems more than enough to eliminate all the space between the wheel well and the tire but it seems that everyone is saying that 2" drop isn't enough, does everyone else here have smaller rims, feedback is greatly appreciated. I have found some afordable springs and wondering if the oem strut towers can accomadate a 2" drop with little compromise in comfort? please check the link and let me know, thanks

last time i checked they still don't make kyb agx's for the 2nd gen. atleast not here in the u.s.

i used the coil spring compresser mr. gasket crap to drop mine, still holding strong, rides nice and no wheel gap.

I think a 1.75-2" drop will be enough and should look just right with 17" wheels.

The Springtech springs in the link are only a 1.75" drop and I think that is a good match to the GR-2s (unless the spring rate is overly stiff). If you asked me I would venture to say that 2" is pretty much as far as you want to have the GR-2s compressed for daily driving. Keep in mind they are not any shorter than the stock struts.

Any smaller wheels like 15-16" will require at least 2.5-3" of lowering to get the ideal look. Ride quality will seriously suffer as the stroke of the suspension will be extremely compromised at that height though.

I suspect that more than 2.5" will not be practical on any of the dampers available on the market (I don't know how short the Koni inserts or the GAB shocks are but they are both rather expensive). The only way I can forsee acheiving the right look and functionality on wheels smaller than 17" is to upgrade to some kind of shortened struts or coilovers.

I have my 15" Miata wheels on the stock ride height (with over 300 000 Kms) right now and I can easily fit my entire closed fist between the tire and fender. I took a quick measurement of ~4.5" of gap in the front and probably more in the rear. It's completely rediculous!

The Mr. Gasket things are spring clamps. Stay away from them if you know what is good for your car.

My Z5 is slow enough already. I'm weary of any wheels bigger/heavier than a lightweight 16".
