are they required.. or they just prolong the life of the struts?

I think they're a bit better than stock GR-2 and are shorter as well, so shorter spring don't affect them as much.


I'm not too well informed on them though, since I've never looked into doing them on my car.

lowering too much decreases the suspension travel.
i.e. the piston is already compressed when a car is lowered.
it'll cause the piston to bottom out due to limited travel. therfor overworking/killing any oem/stock-replacement strut.

the only way to combat that is to:
1) get a shorter strut - custom or possibly koni-inserts
2) get an adjustable strut(mazdaspeed struts) - will control the "rice bounce" and offers improve rebound and/or compression
3) get the ksports (a full coilver system, GC's are not a full coilover system)

if you're going to spend money like ksports, get the koni's, get a good coilover, fab it up. it'll be far better than the ksports, for 15% more in cost; $600 struts, $250-300 coilovers, $250-300 fabbing.

the mazdaspeeds are also in the same price range, and just as good.

i'm going to get the intrax onez with the 1.7inch drop if i can find them
i'll see the most i can get out of some springs
