One of the FS mounts that I have appeared to have liquid in it at one point . The Z6 mount I have does not.

weird because my fsde mounts which i have had since I bought the car new show no traces of ever having liquid in em. I swapped them out when they were still relatively new (only a few months after i bought the car) and there sure was not any liquid in any of em. maybe they sprung a leak? I dunno. Either way this 1.6 mount looks like it will work out great.

im thinking more than likely mine leaked out. i dont remember reading anything about msp specific mounts on list of changes.

ya but im getting some drivetrain noise now after driving it for a couple days. i think i need to redo my crossmember so that it matches the oem mount setup as my other mounts had the engine in a slightly different angle and location.

Decided to replace the 20 year old Escort GT starter so I can sleep better at night lol

Im thinking the drivetrain noises I have been hearing are due to the drivers side OEM FSDE mount being the slightest bit too low (or my 10 year old mount has become a bit saggy after 240,000 KMs) so i am going to shim the mount up 1/8" tonight and see if that makes any difference.

the side and top oem mounts make the car much smoother and more enjoyable for DD. I still have the lower trans front and rear filled with hard poly for now which helps with hard driving etc.

still getting plenty of drivetrain noise. rebuilt crossmember 3 times now thinking that was the issue.

the only way I can describe the noise is that its like driving with bad wheel bearings on front left and right.

The effort required to steer also seems affected depending on how I am making a turn so I am pretty sure this confirms axle binding.

Im guna try shimming the drivetrain higher/lower/left/right/forward/back to see if i can get any changes and if its still giving me problems then I hate to say it but if i cant get this binding issue resolved by the weekend im taking out these oem mounts and putting my crappy custom ones back in until i have time to R & D the oem style setup again.

Having the older style gseries cases kinda makes the whole deal a bit more complicated than it needs to be.. That's why I'm taking my time with getting it all to sit proper without using the rear rack mount. I couldn't even if I wanted to without having to swap tranny cases.. it just doesn't exist on these versions.

can you drive car up onto ramps and look at the suspension loaded and see what angles your CV are in comparison to the diff. if its the axles binding is due to one of them being out of the range the CV's are capable of and that should be pretty noticeable once under the car.

thats the bitch of it they look within reason. Tonight I lowered the rear crossmember mounting point by 1/2" by adding a thick washer and now its just making noise from the front right wheel assembly when the wheel is turning left. sort of like the sound of warped disc brakes but it only makes a chirp every 4th or 5th rotation of the wheel depending on my steering angle. I also noticed that my tires which were in pretty good shape now are showing signs of camber wear. this could also be due to me driving hard testing out the setup, but it seems strange that i never had this before so I think they could be binding to the point of upsetting my alignment (which i had done a month ago lol). I notice that on the drivers side axle there is absolutely no play, but the passenger axle which connects the wheel assembly to the intermediate shaft there is the slightest bit of play. I dont know if this means i have worn out the intermediate shaft bearing, but visually everything checks out. I cant remember off handle if there is suppost to be no play like the drivers side or if it should have just the slightest bit (just enough to mention it, no significant play). Should have made better notes of this stuff when I was disassembling my previous mount setup.

i think if i keep playing with it by shimming different directions i can get it good, i just need to have more patience. next is trying to lower the passenger side mount side to match the lowering i just did to the crossmember.

out of curiousity does anyone know offhand the exact angle the egt drivetrain should be leaning? i threw out my shell a long time ago so I cant exactly check right now

well today i took some time off work and lowered the passenger side oem mounting point by putting as many washers as I could between the 1.6 mounting arm and the bp engine bracket. I am still using the oem 1.8l studs so i could only lower it enough to match the lowering job I did on the rear crossmember.

The result is that the majority of drivetrain noise is gone now. We will see how it goes over the next few days but most of the vibrations and noises i was concerned about seem to have disappeared. we will see if it lasts like this. I also rotated the tires and will be keeping a close eye over the next few thousand ks for camber wear.
