    2000 Protege DX engine swap

I was just curious as to if anyone has done this or attempted such.

I have a 2000 Protege DX, the 1.6 that the car currently has, has stood the test of time. Shes sitting at 240K and some change right now. Shes my daily driver. The biggest problems i have are that seals continue to go out and i have to let the car rest fir a week while i change them over and over again and daily my Miata.

I was looking around the other day and noticed that the engine mounts and bushings for the 1.6 and the 2.0 are identical (from that i can tell, i didnt get exact measurements.) I also noticed that the ECU for the 2003 model year appear to have the exact same plug.

It cant be that easy, right? Just drop in the new engine after replacing seals, the water pump, pulleys and belts? And then just plug in the new ECU?

Ive wanted to turbo this car for the longest time and make her as fun to drive as my Miata, but i never saw a point in doing that to a now 22yr old, tired 1.6.

Please let me know below! Thanks!
