So does the factory "snorkel" have holes under it to allow water to drain if some gets in from rain, etc.? Just curious.

Yes. The factory snorkel has four holes spaced along its bottom which we believe to be water drain holes. There is also a drain hole at the bottom of the resonator and bonsai says there is also one in the bottom of the air box. Consequently, water ingestion due to rain doesn't seem to be a problem.

            air intake mod

Hey i did that mod to the MAF screen. the one were you pop it out. I didnt notice any difference at all in throttle responce or intake sound. i would just recomend dont even bother with that mod and just go save up and buy your self a nice intake system with a heat shield and a cone style filter.

Did you cut out the plastic infront of the air intake. Becuase thats the main thing.

No-ones really sure what the mafscrren does.

And intake systems cost money and low end torqe, while the air mod is free.
Oh well its not like you lost any money on the air mod, no blood no foul right.

                Hey, Zero,
I get the MAF screen removal, but I haven't been able to figure out where exactly to
cut the plastic--do you have a pic, or can you tell me? I don;t wanna cut in the wrong place.

yeah i know you loose low end power with intakes and exhaust, it doesnt really matter though because these cars dont have any low end power anyways. Im just saying this mod isnt even worth the time spent doing it.

Perhaps you could put your opinion into an existing thread about this, that way somebody who wants to do the mod can easily see this. Or maybe it could be merged?

The existing thread has gone to way to many pages to read through it all.
This can be like an abridged version heavely.

The part that is in redish under the intake is the part that gets cut out. Right next to the garnish on the grill.

These cars do have low end power, That's basically all they all are. They have more low end grunt than high end grunt.

Why don't you just experiment with making your own CAI. You can get the u-bend pipes and cut it to lenth, then paint it how you want and use silicone adapters. You can get a Ractive filter with the heat shield that will help against heat.. www.jcwhitney.com

You do loose a bit of low end tq, but your top end will be a bit better and throttle response will be better.
I did experimenting with my own custom CAI back in the day and the car responds much better with a cai that has longer pipeing and pulls air from down by the bumper.
You could actually feal the car pulling harder.

yeah i made my own home depot style ram air system pullin air from under the air dam, that helped alittle, more so than that intake mod that was described in the other thread.
