Everyone agree ATF MV is Equivelant to Dexron III

I read the "Transmission Fluid" sticky at the top, but someone questioned wether ATF MV was Dexron III or Mercon V. Before I service my trans., what all are you using?

    I've got a 2003 Protege 2L w/ auto trans.

    Thanks,

    Eric M.

To the best of my knowledge Dextron III is the correct substitute. I've been using it in my car for some time now and it's been OK. I'm fairly certain that the mercon V should be avoided.

In the FN4A-EL service manual it says that M-V is Dexron III. I can scan in the page if you want to read it.

        Yeah,
That would be great. I ended up buying M-V from Mazda after talking with 2 transmission shops who told me it was a specific Mazda fluid.

        Thanks,

        Eric M.

Ok, I was wrong about the source. I got this out of the 2002 Protege Sevice Manual, but still an official Mazda doc.

My 03 FSM doesn't mention Dexron III being the same as M-V. I guess they decided to boost their fluid sales for 03!

That's good enough for me. Dexron III for M-V.

            Thanks,

            Eric M.

Wow, lots of money and time can be saved with this knowledge. Dexron III is everywhere, but "M-V" is sometimes difficult to find.
