00' Protege 1.8 Rough Idle

Hello there. I am a new member here


Been having rough idle issues with my car lately. The RPM's fluctuate between 750-400 rpm in idle and occasionally dies when coming to a stop when in gear. I've checked the EGR valve, cleaned it up and checked that it moves freely. Checked spark plug wires and plugs everything seems ok. I proceeded to the MAF sensor and tried unplugging it. The car idles perfect and runs perfect with the MAF sensor unplugged but returns to its rough state when plugged in. Could it be a defective MAF sensor? The car is not throwing any CEL codes. It does when the MAF sensor is unplugged, but nothing other than that.

Anybody have any ideas or thoughts?

could be an idle air control.... try cleaning the throttle body first with some 2+2 let dry and try again. an i.a.c at times will not cause a light

Sounds a lot like how mine behaved when the intake tube - between air cleaner and intake manifold - was leaking.
