does it have the 2.0L FSDE in it?

those motors are slugs, i had it in my probe (headers, intake, exhaust, STS, gutted) and it just didnt make anypower at all, turbo really is the only way to make a decent amount of power on those motors

                fast
                cheap
                reliable

choose two...If you want your car to be fast, be ready to either spend money or do a lot of work yourself. You chose the wrong platform to make a car fast. Not putting you down or anything, just facts. You can make it quick by upgrading suspension goodies. Turbo is about the only way to go here...with that (depending on the size of the turbo) you need to upgrade your guts too (pistons, rods, head-work). It's not happening over night, but you can piece your own kit together with basic knowledge of how it works and where to shop. Basically when going turbo, if you don't have the $$ to buy a kit, either get handy with a welder, or become close friends with a local shop

I want to say people also drop the MSP motors (2.0l turbo) in these, but not 100% on that.

What all is done to the exterior? looks pretty stock besides the wheels and tint

i say ditch the tails for stockers or if you are realllly bent on staying aftermarket get some black housings, no CF either...

I think both myself and the rest of CP feels the "chrome" background is rather cheesy lol...

Just an opinion, but to each his own.

But definitely turbo that thing man, Take your time sourcing parts and it wont be too expensive.. I turbo'd my escort for a total of $2000 and that included a motor, tranny, struts, lowering springs, FMIC and the rest of the turbo parts. and age doesnt matter, im 20 and i put it together pretty quick.

yeah i hate chrome stuff. when i got the lights it said they we're smoked and they looked darker. in perso they dont look anything close to chrome or cheesy. thats y i blacked out my badges and got the black housing headlights, cuz i hate chrome and shiny stuff. im thinkin of making the mazda part on my front bumper black too. the silver strip above the black grill. but i'll look into turbo'ing it and all thanks for your help. you got pics of your protege 5?

If you go turbo, dont get it from ebay. those turbos are known for breaking. also your stock map sensor probably wont support boost so ur gonna need some sort of ecu upgrade. just keep searching this and other forums because there are probably a lot of people who turbo'd the 1.8. ditch the automatic though, because unless u want to go slow that automatic is gonna slow you down and probably isn't built for turbo performance. Your main issue other than parts is just going to be getting it tuned for running a turbo. hope all goes well.

take the back seat, passenger seat, all interior panels, carpet and headliner out. Also quit drinking soda so you lose weight too. You can also remove the doors, they're pretty heavy. Hoodless is as awesome as topless women. you can strip out the trunk and spare tire. The trunk lid while youre at it. Audio is not necessary and neither is AC or power steering.
I live my life a quarter pounder at a time. And for those 500 calories or more, I'm free. I need FRIES! Two of them. The big ones. Oh, and I need them tonight. You're lucky the double shot of BBQ sauce didn't blow the seam on your nugget box. There she is, 2 pounds of pure beef. My dad ate it in 9.0 seconds flat. Check it out, it's like this. If I lose, winner takes my happy meal. But if I win, I take the burger and the toy. To some people, that's more important.
