    High idle

With cold weather sitting in I was wondering if anyone else was having this problem. When I start my car up it idles slightly higher then it does during the summer. Is this anything to worry about or just normal during the cold season?

    Thanks in advance!

It's not a problem and is a normal phenomenon. As the ambient temperature falls, the idle speed after a cold start is automatically increased to keep the engine running smoothly while it warms up. When the engine reaches operating temperature, the idle speed should return to the factory specified setting.

For example, according to the FSM, my car should idle within the range 650 to 750 rpm (700 to 800 rpm with the AC on) when at operating temperature. I have a digital tach and after the temperature stabilizes it displays a constant value that transitions from 690 to 700 rpm (730 to 740 rpm if the AC is on), and never deviates outside that range regardless of the ambient temperature.

I wasn't sure if this was a problem or not I don't remember it idling like this last year, then again it was much warmer last winter at this time.

      You & your digital gauges
