    2002 PR5 Timing Belt....

    Question:

Can some one tell me definitively, if the 2002 Mazda Protege5 2.0L
    VIN: JM1BJ24642150****
is an Interference or Free-Wheeling Engine?
My car has 101,577 miles on it. A few of the informational Maintenance websites I visit suggest that the Factory Scheduled Maintenance for the Timing Belt is 105,000 miles.
However, I can not locate information that tells me weather its a "Valve Bender" or a "Free Wheeler" one way or the other.
    Some please enlighten me....please!

pretty sure its an interference engine.
The T3 BP MX-3 conversion has begun, and is taking forever & will kill me.

Just changed mine at 120k, searched all over the web n got at "yes" from one site and a "no" from the next. Several people say theirs broke and didn't bend a valve while some did. I changed mine since it was waaaaay past the recomended milage even tho it was actually in decent shape when I took it off. In my opinion it would still suck if it did break even if it doesnt bend a valve sooooo if you can do it yourself or afford to have it done you probly should. Just be careful not to turn the engine once the belt is off in case it is interferrance. Good Luck!

It's my understanding that all Mazda Proteges and the 626 are equipped with non-interference engines.
