    Blown motor question

Hello. This is a dumb question but i just dont know the answer so i thought id ask on here. I blew the motor in my 2003 protege dx and i was just wanting to swap in a new motor cause i love my car. (bought it brand new) I was wondering if i could just drop in a motor from a 2001 protege? I have an manual transmission in my car but the 2001 protege motor has an automatic trans. Will using a motor from an auto protege cause any problems in my manual trans car?

Thanks and yes i know im dumb for not already knowing this

    Welcome to CP.

The blown engine in your DX is the FS-DE 2.0 L model. With one exception, all 2001-2003 FS-DE engines are identical, both sedan or P5, whether used in a M/T or A/T car. You could just drop the '01 engine in your car but you must change the PCM to one used in a M/T vehicle. The only exception is the engine used in the 2001 MP3 (which only came with a M/T) which is structurally identical, and could also be used in your car, but uses a different PCM from the rest of the 2001-2003 M/T Proteges.

Even the 2003 turbo FS-DET engine is essentially the same as the FS-DE.

    Swap away.

    Happy Motoring!
