    Engine knock after getting gas?

Hey guys, I'm new here! Just bought a 03 rusty protege 5 and I'm frankly terrified. I was gonna fix body on car, it was running very well and driving great etc. Then I put 20$ of 87 in at the gas station and drove home. Then pulled in garage and noticed this like knocking sound (maybe not a knock but it goes with the revs and no codes and seems to drive exactly the same) oil it still at the full mark and no overheating etc. Is it a bad alternator bearing? Did I get bad tank of gas? Please help me save my car!

    Thanks

Any tips would be much appreciated

He meant FS-DE. That's the engine designation for the 2.0 L engine used in the Protege and the P5 from 2001-2003. The FS-DET is the turbo version of the engine.

It's really hard to determine the cause from the video. To me, it sounds like a small exhaust leak at the manifold, but I could be way off. It doesn't sound like a lower end bearing, I had one fail in an FS, and it was more like a hammer hitting the block type sound. I'd try and figure out where in the engine bay the sound is coming from, we could maybe help you out further then.

Does this sound like the alternator going? I need an answer before tomorrow cause if replacing alternator doesn't work I'm out 200$ lol

Sounds like bad gas if you are positive it started right after filling up. You are pinging from pre-ignition, or as most people know it, spark knock.

EDIT: Went off your description before watching the video. That sounds constant, kinda like a main bearing knock. Check your oil for excessive shavings. If it has a grayish look with a lot of flakes, you have a bearing that's most likely about to spin or already has.

sounds like either the power steering pump or a/c compressor bearing!!
