Yeah, they are bolts for the child restraints. They are required to be there by law, but you can remove them. The dealership will have plastic caps to replace the holes left by them.

I don't have those in my 99; they added them in 2000. Did you try looking for some bolts underneath the decklid by looking inside the trunk?

oh my bad... you want em out..... pop the plastic off and take a socket to em.

thanks everyone, I got them off. I will probably be heading to the mazda dealer to see if I can get some of those plastic caps.
