'99 Protege's..2 of 'em..with failing radios

Hey guys:

Since I was here last with my old '98 Protege LX, my brother and I both have bought 3rd generation Proteges. His is an Emerald Mica DX and mine is a Classic Red ES.

Both of our cars have factory radios that are failing, with displys that go on and off, non-working lights, volume control problems, etc.

My question is twofold:

1. Will a stereo from a 2000 Tribute interchange? It looks exactly the same.

2. Will the newer-style stereo from an '01-'03 Protege interchange as well?

I'm not very fond of aftermarket stereos with blue and red lights which clash with the green lights these cars have inside, so I'd like to keep it stock.

I have a radio from my '98 for sale. Not sure if it's the same or not. I'll do some research.

Edit: According to www.jimellismazdaparts.com, the 1999 and 1998 radios are the same thing. If you're interested, I have pictures in my sale thread. PM me for more information.
