    Help picking out some wheels

The specs for the wheels that I am considering on purchasing are:
    17×8
    5×114.3 +48

would this be a good fit for my protege?

    Welcome to CP.

Do you really need an 8" wide rim with its extra weight and greater inertial effect? The stock MSP wheel is 17 x 7" which should support any reasonably-sized tire. In any case, I wouldn't go beyond 7.5" even with a wider than stock tread.

+48 mm offset should be okay.

    Happy Motoring!

Well I'm getting a really good deal for the 17x8 wheel. Ive looked around a bit on the internet and some people say that they are riding 17x8 with 215 tires. I just want to have the wheels and tires flush perfectly with the fenders!

Well, I haven't had any experience with trying to fit an 8" wide wheel on a protege so I can't say what kind of clearance/rubbing problems you might run into. However, if your intent is to have the wheels/tires flush with the fenders, another approach is to obtain wheels with less + offset than the stock wheels. The OEM MSP wheels have a +55 mm offset and a 215/45 tire and as the wheel offset is decreased, it will be moved farther outboard towards the fenders. You might be able to obtain 17 x 7.5" or even 17 x 7" wide wheels that, with the proper offset, will give you flush mounting and still save some weight over the 8" wide wheel. Just a thought unless you're absolutely committed to 8".

It should fit, as people have fit RX8 wheels on these cars. However +48 won't be flush.

The weight difference between a 7.5 and an 8 is negligible, really. Plus, not all wheels are created equal, some 17x9s are lighter than some 17x7s.
