ok well lets think of it this way, ALOT of people have had problems with a CAI on their 1.6 protege, and not so many with the short ram, so it makes me think hmmmm maybe the tiny 1.6 doesnt like the CAI, so i suppose i would recamend a short ram for a 1.6. butttttt thats just my opinion, who cares what i think.

i was also thinking of picking this intake up off ebay, and just using the first piece of pipe to make it a short ram, see how it works. if it dont fit im sure i can modify it to work, and for 50 bucks who cares.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2455852125.....HELLO MY NAME IS BEN...

currently i have mine as a shorty as well. only because it was a pain in the ass to get to the filter each time i needed to clean it, and who wants to remove it everytime the seasons change. it snows here a lot, and i know for a fact, snow packs down there. the gasket i created, fixed it as a CAI, but it did it too without it as a shorty. it's just possible that the intake you have, was made differently, and the seal is complete between the oring, maf and intake. but others were not that lucky.-mike lucero

yeah i hear you, in order to check and or change my CAI filter i pop off the tire and then take off the splash guard haha as much of a pain it is to do i get to check them breaks everytime i change the filter haha, but short ram seems to be what most people say is workin better in the protege, so i see me makin the move in the near spring time future from cold air to short ram.Chris Opito

i didn't know you had to change the filter everytime the season changed. anyways the Injen intake i got didn't come with the gasket, maybe i lost in the package somewhere. yeah it is a pain to take off.sigpic

well.. you dont really need to i guess. depends on where you live. i'd prefer to take it off if snows gonna pack in there. hydrolock is a bitch. i'm not trying to scare you, i imagine the odds of that happening are kinda in your favor. lol. your injen shouldnt come with a gasket.. i meant the oring that's on the MAF.-mike lucero

I heard the only reason you would have to worry about hydroseizing you car is if the submerge the entire filter underwater so no air can enter so the only thing it can suck is water. he maybe wrong though.sigpic
