    Weird Mazda "Security Feature" ?!

    Hey Guys,

I'm looking for some more information on the security "feature" or system that my 2000 Mazda Protege has...Basically, it has a red blinking light on the dash, and in order to start the vehicle, you have to pull towards yourself on the signal light column (the same as you would flashing someone your brights), and then move the lever upwards (right hand turn signal), then turn the key. Has anybody else ever heard of this kind of a feature, and, if so, is this a Mazda authorized aftermarket part? I bought the vehicle used from a dealer about 2 years ago.

    Thanks in advance,

    Joel

no its not a factory security feature. ive worked on vehicles with similar setups to start the vehicle. one that i worked on needed you to turn on the tow package switch on and off to start, another one i had to turn on and off the overdrive switch. those cars were from montreal that came up for some service
