Its a stupid idea to overfill it with 3.5 quarts at first. If anything put 2.5 quarts then check it and add like what was said. You will never get all the oil out when you drain. Ex: my bp says 4.2 quarts. I've never been able to get more than 4 in when I filled it back up. So just do less than fill as needed

I have a 99 1.6 DX with 240K miles and I've done a few oil changes on it. I usually blow out the oil with compressed air when I change it to ensure I get out as much of the old as possible. The oil filter is quite small so you use less oil for the change than with a lot of cars. I put in three quarts and start it up and let it run a half minute, then shut it down. Next I check for any leakage and take it off the ramps. After I lower the car I check the level and it will usually read half way up the range. I then add about a third to half a quart to top it off.

I live my life a quarter pounder at a time. And for those 500 calories or more, I'm free. I need FRIES! Two of them. The big ones. Oh, and I need them tonight. You're lucky the double shot of BBQ sauce didn't blow the seam on your nugget box. There she is, 2 pounds of pure beef. My dad ate it in 9.0 seconds flat. Check it out, it's like this. If I lose, winner takes my happy meal. But if I win, I take the burger and the toy. To some people, that's more important.
I'd just put 3.5 quarts in. Especially since it's, I'm guessing, a higher mileage car. You're undoubtedly burning some of it off, so having a little bit more in there won't really hurt anything. My '02 LX calls for 3.6; I put in 4, and I've never had a problem with the car. I do this because A) It's easier to measure 4 quarts, since I get 1 quart bottles, and B) 0.4 quarts of oil over the recommended amount never killed an engine.
