    Low Brakes

2000 Protege LX 1.8L / Discs in front / Drums in the rear / no ABS

After reading through some previous posts, I'm assuming that my next step will be to replace the master cylinder...but here's some history anyhow:

The pedal is reaching the floor too easily resulting in poor braking and the inability to lock the brakes.

The front rotors and pads have been changed. The rear brakes look good. No leaking anywhere. The brakes have been thoroughly bled.

Does this sound like a master cylinder issue?

    Thanks.

If there isnt any fluid leaking from under the dash. It sounds like the primary seal is letting pressure to bypass. Sounds like its time for a master, if there is no leaks and the lines are bleed of air.

When replacing a MBC, my Haynes manual states that 'On 1997 and later models, a special factory tool is required to adjust the booster pushrod'.

      Two things come to mind:
      1) Could my original problem of low pedal be caused my a poorly adjusted pushrod and not a faulty MBC?

      2) If it is a faulty MBC, do I need this tool? Does the pushrod usually need to be adjusted when replacing the MBC?

      Thanks again.

I want to say No and No, do make sure you bench bleed the new MBC.
