I broke off 1 front swaybar endlink just replacing the springs, those things are made of plastic about as durable as Lego.

My '02 LX was making thumping sounds too, mainly cause I tore out all the carpets/tarp from the trunk. It might be your carjack isn't secured (unless you don't have one). Or the spare tire cover bouncing up n down. And don't ask dealers for help. They'll make sure to keep you coming back. I use privately owned shops, just because there's quite a few of them in my neighborhood, so they have to compete against each other. Competition = better service.

ok first off i love this damn car, its a blast to drive and its the best fwd car iv ever driven. second of all im never downgrading this car im simpley was wondering if since this was a lower end mazda did they not put as much build quility into as there other models. also to set the record straight i had a 1983 320i with 350k on the odometer that i paid $1200 for, im not some rich ass bastard or anything like that, im not downgrading mazda in anyway. I love it!!! I love my friends fc3s(when its insured so we can drive it). Also if your going to knock BMW go test drive one before doing so!

It's probably your rear sway bar end-links.

or it might be your spare tire bolt that holds down the tire it could come lose and everytime u hit a bump it bounces a little!

i had the same problem. everytime i would go over a bump i would hear a loud knock. it turned out to be one of the brackets holding my sway bar bushings was broken and letting the sway bar twist as i went over bumps and then would go back to normal and hit the bottom of my car.

check your sway bar.

well i finally fixed that ****ing problem!!! it turns out it was the struts, sway bar links, and the dammed swaybar bushings. my car only has about 53K on the odometer and i havent heard of all that **** going wrong on a car with that amount of miles before. musta been built on a friday or monday haha.....**** THAT.............wouldnt have happend if it was a BIMMER. haha im jk because we all know you guys hate them BIMMERS and cant accept there better cars, that doesnt matter though i promise never to mention the holy BMW's anymore on this forum.
