The gauge and hose, fittings etc, should be universal. I dont have a 1st gen to fit a bracket to though. The bracket is bent up and drilled for a 3rd gen. I have an 86 323 also, but I dont know how much is the same as your 1st gen.

Also as far as a GTX swap, thats what I'm doing to my 323. Are you going to do the 1.8 bpt or the 1.6 b6t? Yoiu have the option to do either, were as the 1.8 is a lot harder for me to do. I'm also converting my sedan over to all wheel drive. A GT would be cool, but they never made a GTX sedan in my body style. I've seen plenty of all wheel drive 1 gens around, so your GTX conversion would be easy. Thats if you really wanted the allwheel drive. If not a lot of people just drop in the GTX motor and then use a GT tranny since its about as sturdy as the GTX's all wheel drive one.

Join a yahoo forum called 323gtx and its overflow called 323gtx2. TONS of very knowledgable people and a tone of people with parts etc on there.

As far as my opinion of where to get a good deal on a B6t, i would say Brian at Reich racing. About $3000 shipped would get you EVERYTHING you need for your swap.

            COMPLETE motor/w turbo
            upgraded intake
            gt tranny
            afm
            ecu upgrade
            a/c compressor
            shipping
            axles
front spindles for the bigger brakes

I know there was more but basically everything you'd need for a GT conversion.

Since I've handmade the turbo kit in my MP5 i will probably go the same route with my 323. Just need a b6t with no turbo or anything (i can use the accesories off of my 323) I'll make up the turbo kit (probably use a GT28rs) and I'll get a GT tranny.

Another option for you is find a GT or GTX with a ****TY body and trashed interior. They go for damn cheap. I almost got a GT up in MI that ran good, but bad body and interior for $500. I would just swap everything engine and suspension wise over into my mint body.

            Just my 2 cents
