Is the ring gear the one that likes to bust on our trannies? I know that 3rd likes to strip(hehe) and the diff apparently blows up? Is it the ring gear that is crappy, or is it just the stock diff and all those little gears inside are garbage?

the issue is not the ring gear, the issue with the diff is the center pin that likes to shear the itty bitty roll pin that holds it and take a tour de transmission whenever it feels stressed.

Presumably then this LSD will not have that "shearing the pin" problem. In the beginnning of the thread it was stated that they have tested their honda LSD(very similiar to these ones) to 950whp?

You shouldn't worry about the diff being able to handle the power if it's as good/better than the Quaife, which I think it will be. The major problem is the weak transmission case. When my transmission blew, the secondary shaft went straight through the bell housing. If you are familiar with the internals, that's the area right where the pinion and ring gear are. That's how I destroyed my ring gear (the Quaife was fine). I've since strengthened that area, so we'll see what breaks next - hopefully nothing any time soon...

you're better off with a kia g series if you're worried about the ring gear... it is significantly wider and the bellhousing casting is stronger. you can use just a kia bellhousing if you want, the rest of the internals can come from a probe v6, 97+ escort lx/zx2, etc.... all depends what you want for gear ratios.

the trannies with the wider ring gear and better bellhousing also have a longer secondary shaft that will not fit in a BG g series.

i am running a kia bellhousing with 97 escort internals and rear housing.

that would be crazy when the transmission still blows up in side of it metal soup

I live my life a quarter pounder at a time. And for those 500 calories or more, I'm free. I need FRIES! Two of them. The big ones. Oh, and I need them tonight. You're lucky the double shot of BBQ sauce didn't blow the seam on your nugget box. There she is, 2 pounds of pure beef. My dad ate it in 9.0 seconds flat. Check it out, it's like this. If I lose, winner takes my happy meal. But if I win, I take the burger and the toy. To some people, that's more important.

Steel casts aren't too great, annealed ductile cast iron is teh shizzle! Don't mistake it for regular brittle weak gray iron, that stuff is ten times as tough. It can be compared to cast steel in the context of "cast steel sucks ass compared to ADI" plus it has much better vibration dampening properties.

You could get stronger box out steel though, by forging, and it's great if you're willing to shovel some $15k into manufacturing a case...
