What you see here is a JDM 1990 Mazda Protege Turbo. This is a "BPT" conversion. I had Corksport drop in a twin cam, 1800cc turbo motor from Japan. One of the many nice features of the Mazda power plant is that horsepower and torque are almost the same. Thus providing amazing torque and pull. None of the V-tec low torque nonsense. The motor is basically stock with a rebuilt GTR head, Corksport power down pipe, true cold air intake and full Corksport Stainless steel exhaust all the way back. This means that you can continue to had HP without compromising the reliability of the motor. It has not been on a dyno, but with 12psi, we estimate it at about 215hp. It could be more, this is a quick little car. Here's a list of items, I'm sure I'll miss something. I have receipts for most everything, I'm looking to get $1500 for the car, there's a lot here.
Corksport installed "BPT" JDM twin cam turbo motor, timing belt and water pump
Rebuilt GTR head with new lifters installed by AR
Cold air intake
Corksport power down pipe
Corksport full stainless steel exhaust with their custome SS tailpipe
ACT clutch
RMS, Rod Millen Motorsports springs, basically Eibach Pro kit springs
Tokico blues-need to be replaced--this set up is currently on car
Additional set of Intrax 2"drop coils and KYB shocks in good condition
GTR upper strut brace
Rear sway bar
Corksport short shift kit-not installed in car
Dual core radiator
15" alloys
I parked the car about 5years ago after the clutch master cylinder failed, moved on to other projects and forgot about this one. The great thing about these Mazdas is that they share the same platform as the early to mid 90's Ford escorts, coupes, sedans and wagons. My intention was to find a 91-94 Ford escort wagon and transfer all the goodies and have a really cool, fast, sleeper of a little wagon. I may still do it if no one buys the car. You can even find a "Ford" twin cam cover. This conversion will pass DEQ since the power plant is basically the same. My original motor, a twin cam motor was also used in the Ford Escort LXE or Mercury Tracer LTS.
This is a project car, it will need to be towed. As you can see from the pics, there is a small crease on the left side doors of the car, the paint is original and fading, buff it out and be happy for the time being. The car has a sunroof with an interior that is in decent condition. The quick thing to do is to simply get this car running again and enjoy the hell out of it. The cool thing to do is find a fresh donor Ford wagon and create a fun, fast, and functional car. You can reach me here or at tomlf@comcast.net or 503-781-3781
