    Need Escort trans ASAP

Still researching, but I'm not sure if it's the F or H series trans I need. OE trans for the wagon. I destroyed the ****er at the rally, and need a fix pronto. Ya sure, BP and g series swap would be great right now, but i don't have all necessary bits yet, or time or place to even do it (store while i collect parts). Any1 up in the NW got a tranny just collecting dust?

"There's a hierarchy of insanity in motor sports. Normal people think all racers are crazy. Folks who race sedans think people in open-wheel cars are nuts. People who race cars of any kind think motorcycle racers are absolutely off theirs meds. But there's one group that everyone agrees is made up of the most extreme, the most daring, and absolutely craziest people in racing - rally racers."

F-series trans, but a G series from a 3rd gen escort with SOHC will work if you get the axles with it. Only like 1 or 2 bolts wont line up. Ran it till my 1.9 died

Since your in there you could also use the bigger clutch of a 3rd gen escort as well. Just need the flywheel and starter to match it. The difference between the 1.9 (smaller) and 2.0 (bigger) clutch is very noticeable, oh and the SOHC and DOHC clutches are interchangeable.

Don't you want a smaller clutch, not bigger? Smaller diameter means better inertia. Thats why all the race car guys go with 5.5" diameter multiplate clutches. I mean, yeah, it may be weaker, but an 88 hp engine doesn't need a strong clutch, IMO.

Really? Are we talking about race cars here?

There is a 25mm difference between the 2 clutches, so the weight difference is negligible. The clutch grips much better for taking off with, and felt way more solid then any of the smaller clutches that were in mine. The smaller clutch literally feels sloppy compared to the larger one. The other advantage is it should last longer and have better durability on that 88hp engine since it was designed for a more powerful engine, which is the whole reason I installed a KY clutch that will hold 300HP on my mostly stock BP, plus the price is about the same as a stock kit.

Does it need it? no it doesn't, but I am providing the info in case he wants to go that route.

Well, I guess that when he said rally car, he meant performance. And I thought they were bigger than 25mm, which is why I said what I said. (I changed the clutch on my escort pony and my protege lx and the protege had a larger clutch, but I couldn't remember exactly how much larger, as it was a while back. But I could have sworn it was more than 25mm. Oh well.) But if he wants a durable clutch, yes, the bigger clutch is better.
