I read somewhere that you could lock the diff so that you could use a front wheel drive Dyno for an AWD GTX/GTR. Could someone explain the procedure? I can move the shaft where the diff lock shaft would be on a USDM trans.

I've never tried mine, but there is nothing else to it. Maybe turn a shaft while you pull. Or maybe just pull harder. That's all the motor does.1990 Protege 4WD

Locking or unlocking the centerdiff, and running it on a 2wd dyno, will result in distaster, unless you also unbolt the driveshaft. Power goes to all 4 regardless of the centerdiff, just to be sure everyone who wants to try this knows it...'90 AWD Protege, full GTR drivetrain swap, ~320 whp daily driver, RIP, and
'90 AWD Protege, yet another GTR swap, Open class rallycar with a Toyota GT4 gearbox swap, thus crossing the line between hobby and mental illness. And a Brabus E55 K8, removing all doubt.

yeah but after that you do have to lock the diff to get power to run to those wheels if i'm not mistaken... though with your vlsd center i'm not sure if that's as true...

Yes you're right, once you unbolt the rear driveshaft you have to lock either flavor of centerdiff to run the front wheels only on a dyno.
But running the car on a 2wd dyno is asking for trouble. The centerdiff was never meant to run to redline, spinning like mad, sending all power to the front of the car. It's weak enough under normal conditions as it is. You can, but I'd only do one reference pass. Better to try and find an AWD shop. No idea why there are at least 4 in my immediate local area...'90 AWD Protege, full GTR drivetrain swap, ~320 whp daily driver, RIP, and

why would you want to do this anyways?I live my life a quarter pounder at a time. And for those 500 calories or more, I'm free. I need FRIES! Two of them. The big ones. Oh, and I need them tonight. You're lucky the double shot of BBQ sauce didn't blow the seam on your nugget box. There she is, 2 pounds of pure beef. My dad ate it in 9.0 seconds flat. Check it out, it's like this. If I lose, winner takes my happy meal. But if I win, I take the burger and the toy. To some people, that's more important.
