ok i still have the stock sohc awd transmission in my car, i swapped a dohc bp in it with a t3 turbo, ect, ect, i did this a few years ago and the trans has been holding up just fine untill now.
well last spring i noticed the axle seal on the driverside was leaking, i changed it twice with new ones from napa and no luck and even pulled a stock awd seal off a extra transmission i had, the awd and fwd seal is the same, except the stock awd mazda seal has a little metal cup on it, tried that still didnt fix the leak.
well i just ended up driving the car for another month and topped offed the trans every week and then parked it for the summer.
i also noticed a sound,a pretty loud one at that, like a bad wheel bearing sound coming from the front, it only makes the sound when rolling. In gear or neutral it still makes the sound and starts around 20mph.
well i pulled the car back out yesterday and put a new driverside axle in it that i had laying around, as a last ditch hope of it being a quick fix before the snow falls, well it still leaks and makes the sound. i did check the wheel bearings, i just shook the wheels at 9 and 3 and 12 and 6 and there was no movement so im assuming the bearing are good. im going to change them anyway and maybe get new rotors also as they are a few years old now.
also the car runs just fine no clunking, goes into every gear, the throwout bearing is a little noise but otherwise it just fine.
so with that being said, anyone have a idea of what this could be?
im thinking its something in the transmission, but i dont know for sure, i have never pulled apart a fwd or awd bg transmission, for a matter of fact i have never pulled apart any fwd transmission ever. any input would be appreciated.
