I was at AutoZone picking up some sandpaper and polish for the protege and ran across a Red Top Optima battery for 119.00 ...
Is that a good price?
bruce
yeah, that's a good price. not great, but good. i've heard mixed reviews about the red tops recently. someone was telling me that consumer reports said it barely had more reserve capacity than a cheap $40 walmart battery i do remember reading that the excide red top had more reserve capacity than the optima.
yeah, all the spiral cells are great batteries, IMO. i was using a red top excide under my hood, till the rear battery killed it damned cheap battery got a plate rattled loose from the bass oh well. i'll be putting in 2 spiral cells in my car now
I am going to put my battery in the trunk. I am considering the red top and at that price. well..
I have to wait though
We shall see.
I am getting a few things withing the next few weeks
1.pay off damn traffick violation from 2 years ago

1st off, batteries don't produce any power, they store it.
2ndly, most all batteries have a standing voltage of 12.8 volts.
getting a better battery will get you longer life, higher reserve capacity, and better terminals. and spiral cells are the toughest batteries i've ever used. they take abuse that would destroy the cheaper batteries.
I've had a Optima red top for about 3 years now, for the past 6 months i've ran it for about 45mins > 1hr every other day or so at lunch time just chillin. Does just fine.
Another benfit (for me anyway) with the Optima, is that it's about 15-25lbs less than most other batteries
