I've looked a couple different places and some say the 2nd gens front speakers are 5.25" and some say 6.5".......someone please help me figure out which it really is. i have a 1997 Pro LX. Thanks!

Generally, both will fit, but why go for 5.25" when you can have 6.5"?
I have had a couple of 6.5" sets, and all of them worked fine. You might have to drill new holes for the screws to secure the speakers, but that is all. Go for the 6.5".

Installing 6.5" speakers is not going to be a problem at all, but as far as depth goes, stay away from anything deeper than 2.5" You're not going to be able to roll down your windows all the way down (I can't).
