    front speakers

what are the size of the door speakers? I thought that they were 5 1/4", but I went to an audio store and they looked it up and said that we had 6 1/2" speakers all around. I put 6 1/2" speakers in the back, but I had to drill some sheetmetal screws to mount them. I've tried to take the door panel off, but it didn't work. Before I try again, I want to have the speakers on-hand. Thanks for your help in advance, this is almost the last step to my audio setup!

they are a 6.5 but have oddball mounting points as you saw with the rears. mounting depth is really shallow and you also have to watch the mounting height as well (hits the window crank if you dont have power windows ) i went with 5.25 in the fronts and made a custom adapter from the old speakers to mount them and kept the stock grills

well when I went to go mount the speakers in the rear, I noticed that weird screw pattern. I also searched the forums and found out about the window crank problem. Here are the speakers that I want, but I can't find the mounting depth specs. I have to drill in one more sheetmetal screw in the back because it vibrates too much with the sub, makes a bit of noise.

i wouldnt use those for rear fill . great for door location but might be too deep . another member here made custom adaptors that moved the stock location in the door down and a little bit forward to clear the window cranks allowing him to move the speaker out and avoid clearance issues . mounting the tweeters in the mirror sails seems to be easy enough just be sure to position them for proper imaging as they are @ ear level ( aim the passenger side @ the driver and the driver side @ the passenger )

to keep mine completely stock looking i took a dremel to the old stock speakers and just cut the ring with the 3 holes out and mounted my speakers to that. there was a small gap that i had to fill with putty but now they are 100% secured and sealed to the door . any gaps there create backwaves that affect sound quality

jaws! i just did the front door speakers in my pro. i got these speakers and they sound great, fit UNDER the stock grill (dont have a protruding grill and thief magnet), and clear the window without spacers. you just have to drill a couple holes for screws which isnt really a big deal.
they are a good store and ship pretty fast. im tellin you this is the way to go.

That's a good site. the boss speakers sound ok? I didn't really trust them because of the price. I was hoping for the mb quarts, I might just have to drill new holes. If you can fit that 6 1/2" in there then I shouldn't have too much of a problem.
Also! I was thinking about mounting the tweeters in the side mirrors, but I have manual mirrors and they would get in the way. I might put them on the dash angled at the driver and passenger's face.

noo dont get boss lol. they are crappy. but as for 5.25 inch speakers I made a mount out of plywood. I then noticed they sell adapters on ebay, and they look exactly like the ones I made. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/5-25-...CarQ5fSpeakers

not sure if they will work for us, but they look like they should

yeah unless you are an audiophile they sound fine. 100% better than stock. and they just drop in perfectly, no spacers, no adapters, no bull****. lol do you have the stock head unit still?
and tracer- have you ever heard boss in person? i listened to them and then listened to the same song in my friends car with type r door speakers and you really couldnt tell unless you turn it up really really loud. i can turn mine up to where i can hear it very clearly like 20 feet away with closed windows, if you need louder than that you need hearing aids.

no doubt that any speakers will sound better than stock. I believe that everyone should be proud of what they have as long as it sounds good. Entry level subs are still subs, upgraded speakers are still better than stock. I love my sub, it pounds really hard for a first system. I just need some treble, but my ears are sensitive so high pitches hurt. I like those spacers, but I'm wondering if 6.5" is going to be too big, even with a spacer.

never their speaker but ive heard their subs hooked up to the exact same amp in my car compared to sony subs. and the sounded like crap. And yes anything is better than the stock cardboard speakers but boss is crap. My clarions are cheap speakers (150 bucks for 2) and you dont know good sound until youve heard clean sound. I had pioneer 5x8 in my explorer all the way around with the same deck and amp, and my 2 clarions kicked their ass. When I had my subs I could hear every word clear as day with the bass all the way up. I can hear any car clear as day 20 feet away, but when im in the car I want quality. Mids and highs are superior with my clarions. I used to think the same thing but until I got my clarions which arnt even that good in the audio industry I realized ive been listing to crap. And thats only with 2 good speakers and my other 2 are walmart pieces of crap. Pretty much all the sound is coming from my rear speakers(clarion) and if you have a stock headunit id recomend infinity speakers. seriously I cant say this enough you havnt heard good sound until youve heard a good quality speaker.

whoa i realized i kinda sounded like an ass here. sorry guys, i was just drunk lol

i have a kenwood excelon deck. I have 6.5" kenwood rear speakers and the JL sub. I don't want to drown out the sub with treble lol. I've heard really good things about mb quarts though. Clarion is a good brand, but I haven't heard them in person.

i made all custom adapters and rear deck lids.
used kicker 6.5 componets in the front..
used the kicker two way 5x7s in the rear doors with custom kicker decklid with raised 6x9s three ways with an 800w amp running them... if it dont fit make something that will let it fit..
