    Home audio: 8" woofers

Hey, I have a pair of speakers like these at home:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...sPageName=WDVW

They sound pretty good, at least to me, but the woofers have been blown to shreds (due to age & rot). They're from 1988 or so. The magnets look pretty small on these woofers, so it's not worth reconing them. The box itself is probably decent, so I was just wondering, if anybody has a good idea for some less than $100 replacement woofers?

I would try contacting Boston Acoustics. They have awesome customer support. We had people order just tweeters or parts from them if one part malfunctioned and they would ship replacement parts for pretty cheap. If that fails, you can get woofers from radio shack for home speakers or ask Boston what impedence driver you should get (i.e. 8 ohm).

find out what impedance the 8's are and order ones accordingly from here:

i'm going to assume that they are 8 ohm, like most home speakers like that.

Yes, 8 ohm, thanks. The woofers are 15 years old, and have small magnets, that's why I wouldn't order the exact replacement part from Boston Acoustics.

Any suggestions??? BTW, thanks, I appreciate the help, I dunno about most of this stuff. I'm totally out of my league in this section. Mostly this is for my mom; she turns up ABBA a lot. LOL. Then again, when nobody's around, I like to play Nine Inch Nails.

I would get the Dayton speakers.
I just recently made a pair of floor standing speakers using those: link and those: link and I was surprised by the way they sound (considering the price). They're 5 1/4", and I'm sure the bigger ones sound even better. Here's what my speakers looked like 2 weeks ago:

PS. PartsExpress is awesome. Great customer service and orders are shipped very quickly. The quality of packaging is beyond excellent. If I had three thumbs I'd give them all up for Partsexpress. lol

i spent 100 bucks on a 150w RMS powered 10 at radioshack. not the best, but it sounds hella good with the rest of my home theater system. i actually think it sounds better than my freinds home system and hes got two 15s, one in each speaker tower.

Alright, I just ordered the Daytons, although it said my CVV2 number on my credit card was incorrect. As long as that clears up, should be here by the end of the week or so.

Hey what's Intruder's car doing in your garage (to the left)?! Hee hee. Glad to see it worked out for you. Did you ever contact Boston Acoustics? I got a set of store display Pro Series 4.2's but the xovers had standard connects instead of gold connects, so they contacted the store, had them ship back the old set and shipped a brand new Pro Series 4.4 in it's place. I was amazed at the customer service. I then traded my car in and the store agreed to let me trade up for the 5.4s and pay the little bit of difference (since they were on layaway in the back). Customer service kicks ass at Boston Acoustics. I don't know if they are the same, but that is why they are so popular among consumers and dealers.
