New look of Elemental Designs subs. (speaker porn!!!)

I was browsing through soundillusions.net and found this:

Now compare the above pictures to these:

    Look the same, don't they?

The first four pics correspond to the new "15ae" by Elemental Designs, while the last three are pics of some older subs made by someone else (Audiomoblie EVO-R's).

I think they also look like Alpine Type-R subs.
    They're cool anyway.

      Moar!

And "speedholes". Apparently the dood put holes in his sub. I've never heard of "speedholes".

Do you think they use the same materials as Alpine and/or EVR. They do look very similar.

standard off the shelf parts. there are only a few companies that actually design and build most all the parts for their subs. JL is one company that comes to mind. most all other places buy their parts from the same places as everyone else, and picks the parts that fit their needs.

my buddy is sending back his A15, and they said he would not be getting a flat cone sub in return. hopefully i'll get to play with that prototype one pretty soon

the prototype looks to be from TC sounds, who build more subs than you could imagine same high roll surround, but only 3 magnets on the prototype:

Yes, both of the eD subs above use parts seen on other subs. I think they mentioned something like LA. I'm not sure if that's a company you guys have heard of but I'm too lazy right now to go back and look for the names in that thread. I think they look cool, and if they perform as well I'll be switching to the new design. That is, if the K line also gets that design.

That looks pretty nice... and Martin, I'll take your old one off your hands when you switch.

                    no commenttttttt (sticky keys)

at any rate, blue, how will this 15AV.2 match up to my PG Ti15? it has a bigger magnet.. looks like a hell of a surround, but doesn't look like the cone dips in as much as my phoenix. at any rate, i can't wait to see what happens with ED, with all of their previous talk about building a set of components, cone issues and everything, it's been nothing but bad luck for these fellas. and can somebody tell me what the hell the mentality in 'speed holes' is. all it looks is like someone destroyed a perfectly good prototype.
                    peace

Those speed holes were made in MS Paint. I don't know if anyone is really punching holes through their subs. (I read that after posting the pics)

The cone doesn't dip much, you're correct Kevin.

And based on all the happy folks over at the eD forum, and the optimism seen in the staff's posts, I think they're doing pretty good.

*if* the av.2 is the TC sounds from the link i posted, then it will destroy the PG. hell, it'll destroy a brahma, a XXX, a W7, ANY sub out. it looks very similar, and i know ED has a lot of their products built by TC sounds. it looks to have the same double spider system, the same high roll surround, VERY similar basket and back plate. the biggest difference is that the one in my link has 4 magnets instead of 3.

damn it.. hmmm, wonder if a 500 watt amp is going to be enough to handle this baby well, reguardless, i'll drive my pg ti15d into the ground and start with the new ed 15 and see how well i fair out.. worse comes to worse, BIGGER AMP TIME . a little side note, elemental's website is down for the next few weeks as they revamp everything.. hopefully they price that baby between 300 & 350.. then i'll be set
