I think I know what you're talking about... is it 4 bolts that hold the gasket down?
if so, one of mine comes out every 2-3 months or so. I even put locktite on it with no luck... came out again yesterday. So yet again I tightened it down.
Lucky for me, its the one in the back next to the oil line... it's hard to get at, and therefore hard to tighten really well.... but when it comes out I always find it sitting pretty on the housing lol.Adam- 1994 Escort GT-X

Quick update: painted my intercooler pipes black and replaced the coolant hose going to the turbo - it was old and cracked.
I know I know - pics are needed and I will post some later this week - I promise. My intercooler setup looks very similar to Pat's
I haven't replaced the underbody plastic covers - how necessary are those? (piping kind of gets in the way)
I also noticed I was running way too rich - had to do an oil change as some gas started getting into the oil. I rolled the VAF 3 clicks back - and now after a drive and after letting the car turbo time until EGTS are 600 ... my plugs are nice and tan coloured. This doesn't tell me how the car is under boost however, but I hear no detonation and until I am sure, I won't beat on it.
Working on getting a wideband O2 within a couple of weeks.

yeah ive been looking for some 1 hoo did the gtx swap 2 a lx escort and had no luck . next question wher did you get thet engine from and how long did it take im on a month waiting so farGOD INVENTED TURBO LAG TO GIVE THE V8 A CHANCE!!!!!

just a hint.. look into some mechanical locking nuts, SS or copper, for the exhaust. my volvo uses 8mm ones (stainless, from a bmw shop), but 10mm ones shouldn't be too hard to get, just look around at BMW or porsche dealerships, or even other Volvo ones. Basically, the thread pitch kinda changes about half way through, just enough to lock them on solidly. After having loose ones from time to time, after using them, I've never had a problem. Still never had a problem on my escort, though.
13thghost, I did the GTX into an LX wagon. I got a whole front clip from a shop in florida, no clue on the time it takes for you to get yours.
Swap is easily done in an afternoon if you're experienced with the car. If not, give it a weekend plus maybe some days after work. It's actually pretty simple. look around for PDF shop manuals for the protege, that will get you most of the info you need.
