    Hi ftjandra & therieldeal

firstly i need to tell u guys that the stock g-series box has 28 spline count and 101% sure iv counted them over and over the infini has 26 spline which i had a very troublesome 4 months to work out how and what inner cv joint to use. atm i'll be using the stock G5M0 box for now till i can get the infini box sorted out. what i am after is to replace the infini lsd with another 1 which performs better. does anyone know what the stock infini lsd feels like?

it worrys me after reading what you said about the length issues cos i thought if i have both sides 26spline cups either side of the infini box then use the original shaft ends to connect them up and its done isnt it? or am i going wrong somewhere?

hmm ferdi if the quaife lsd uses 28spline count does this mean i can just pop the quaife into the box and the im sorted? cos the stock G5M0 box uses 28spline too

Over here, the stock 1st gen Protege axles are not 28, but only 26. That is why we have to source axles from a Kia Sephia that uses the same BP motor with a slightly different g-series transmission that uses 28 spline count axles. So, in my case, all I need is the Quaife lsd and Kia axles.

        --Ferdi

Edit: Ok, just counted the splines of a spider gear from the stock open diff and it is 26. Edited my other post to fix my error.

If you can't differentiate between brake and break, you should go back to school

some G series trannies are 28 spline here... the mx6/probe v6, the mx3 v6, the 95+ protege ES? (with the BP), etc etc etc.

For those of you running more than 250whp you will need to strengthen the MSP diff if you want to run it reliably. When you look at the diff the ring gear support is only spot welded in 4 places. Take it to a welder and have him run full beads around the edge where the spot welds are. There have been a ton of MSPs breaking the LSD once they start upping the HP.

                Lantis you poor sod

                still havnt found a 1993 MX3 V6 (26 spline) LSD axles ???? should cost $100NZ
and then a quick chop/respline of the stock 26spline axle
                cost $150NZ

$250NZ is all it costs to get it working
                told you this before mate

                      Great find!

I find it hard to believe that they claim with certainty that the GTX 3rd gear is stronger than an NA G series 3rd. What is that assumption based on? How much horsepower the car makes stock for stock?

A truly resilient tranny would have a plate for stiffening the case like Ferdi is building, stronger 3rd and 4th gears, and stronger bearings for the shafts.

The actual cut of the gear teeth in GTX 3rd gear is much thicker than in the stock G series. Less chance of shearing off teeth. I've seen pictures of both pieces side by side.

So, without going to the manual ... is the gear ratio the same between the two boxes?

I'd like to see these comparison pics if you still have them.

GTX on the left...stock 3rd Gen Protege on the right.

There is quite a bit of confusion going around about them, so sorting it all out is tough. It looks like the GTX gears have a slightly lower gear ratio (1.23:1 for GTX, 1.310:1 for 3rd Gen). This allows the teeth to be thicker/stronger.

This car is running the 3rd Gen FS motor/trans with 3rd, 4th, and 5th gears from the GTX They say that he used to break the stock gears, but since he switched to GTX gears he has to worry more about the axles.
