is it my clutch or transmission?????

i have a 91 escort gt and im not sure if i blew the tranny or clutch. i can go threw all the gears fine. but car wont move i can push the clutch down put in gear while car is on but car wont move and i can take my foot off the clutch pedal while the car is in gear it will stay on but one move even if i give gas. and i hear a noise. but when i push the clutch all the way down i dont hear it anymore. as soon as i take my foot off the clutch i hear the noise...... what happen was. i was downshifting off a highway exit. as soon as i hit second gear it sounded like a pop then i had no clutch pedal. and it felt like i was hitting the brake and i wassnt.

im going to guess its in the clutch assembly somewhere..

either way clutch/trans the trans has to come off and you cant drive it anyway so open it up and take a look

I never took a transmission apart. So idk what too look for. Or tell if something is messed up unless it's completely off

Shine a light into the bellhousing where the clutch fork goes in, or take the acess panel off the bottom and see if there's anything loose in there, like chunks or splines or something. It's either a clutch or a diff. Either way big stuff has to come outta the engine bay.

Have a look at your axles... Does your speedo move when you try and drive it? A broken axle will do what you are talking about...

Broken axle is gonna be more common than a broken clutch as well.

I didn't read this part... I shouldn't skim over posts so often before replying... Double check axles since its easy to do, but chances are you broke the clutch..
