    G-Series for a B6 powered 323?

I want to know (if possible) what it takes to swap a g-series gearbox (preferably a Kia box, but a Protege/EGT one will do as well) into my B6 powered 323. Before you say "just BP swap it", please humor me. I'm keeping the B6 because of reasons. I've been searching around trying to find info on this, but it's clearly not a popular swap (despite the title of this section including the words, "Installing a G series transmission in a stock F series car?"), so I haven't found much. I know I need the entire gearbox, axles and the mid-shaft, but what do I need to make it work? I read that the mid-shaft doesn't bolt up to the B6 block properly. What about the bell housing? Will the axles work with my stock hubs? Any info on this would be greatly appreciated!

clutch setup, axles, trans, and g series slave cyl. all you need. the hlafshaft wont bolt to the block right, but it will work. i did it a few years ago.

Details on "won't bolt to the block right" how many of the 3 bolts line up? I wonder if you could fabricate an adapter plate or something..

Honest question though: what's wrong with a b8 swap. Still got the sohc plus more displacement. Win win

I don't want to change engines.

Thanks for the info, 89BG 323. So the bell housing is fine, I'm assuming? Is the tranny mount the same? *edit* I'll also need the 1.8 flywheel, I've read.

yes, you need the dohc flywheel. and y wont bolt to the block, i mean not at all. an adapter plte would be needed. i didnt bother with it, and it didnt give me any issues, but i was never very comfortable with it. you will also need all of the g series trans mounts. none of the stock f series mounts are compatible, iirc.

Hmm. Yeah without any bolts I'd be very weary about it, or... Is an automatic the same spline count? The passenger side axle is a long one pice without a half shaft

not the happiest option but later year escorts used a long axle instead of a jackshaft. thats an option or a jackshaft from a G series B6T (good luck finding one) should work as well if your using a regular G (pro lx, EGT)

no, ace, all the automatics were of an f series design. and ive torn down two auto lx's, and they both had the jackshaft design, rather than a long axle. i'd go with shawn's idea of using the escort axle.

are you wanting to switch to the g-series just because its a little stronger? if i had a b6, i would stick to the f-series, i like the gear ratio a lot more.

I plan to do some light turbocharging and also want a limited slip diff. Mazda made an f-series lsd at one point, but idk if they still do. I really like how compact and light the f-series is, but again, no lsd. My plan was to source a g and swap in a 626 5th gear with an MFactory diff and hope that there was a g-series with a tall final drive ratio. What's the tallest oem final drive (ring gear) I can get? Or are they all pretty much the same?

*edit* There's always an F-Series Quaife if it'll work in the stocker, but I really don't want to pay $400 more than I paid for my whole car on a differential.
