Base timing on built BP

    i know it is only supposed to be in one position, thats what i'm saying. with it in the wrong position and the plug wires switched around and the distributor maxed out you might be able to get it to run.

      I checked, rotor is on properly, wires are good.

      Max advance with the disty was around 18* and I set it lower to 14*, will prolly go back to 13* or 12* to make sure engine is running properly.

      BTW, the higher you set the timing, the higher the idle is so that sort of contributed to my high idle.

      A timing light is a must, everyone should have one.

        The reason the idle goes up is because your engine is making more torque at idle with more advance.

          makes sense.

          I really hope to receive the wideband and the MS before the weekend so I can start building it and tune my car meanwhile as is. I checked the plugs and they look good, hard to tell if it's rich or lean, maybe a bit lean as the insulator is really white but not enough to cause detonation. Anyways, lots of things still to learn.
