Unfortunatly, the EPA has become big brother and requires my area to do smog testing on all cars under 25 years old...unless you can sell them that your car is a collectors item.
We are fully aware that would be a hard sell with our vehicles.
I currently have a 1991 Escort GT I am putting a GTR engine into. This has been a long drawn out project that has been on the back burner for almost 10 years.
Years ago, I considered looking at an standalone ECU, but the cost was way too high. Now with the Megasquirt, the price is really appealing and is something I really need to think about.
They do not pop the hood or anything. On vehicles older than 1996, they look to see if you have a check engine light on, check for a converter, and then stick a tube up the tail pipe. They drive on a dyno for about 1 mile at 30 MPH under a heavy load.
Is anyone here running a Megasquirt and ALSO have to deal with smog testing? If so, will it pass?
I know if an engine is running good, there is no reason it shouldn't pass. I am just checking to see if this is something that can be done.
