Greetings I have done a bpt in 323 gt. I am now having some serious issues with my car. I found out that my fuel pump was corroded so i changed it to Walbro 255lph. I notice that whenever start the engine there is black smoke coming from the exhaust and when i rev it it only gets worst & it misses around 5000-6000rpm. I check the plugs & they were black so i cleaned them up & put them back but the same problem exist. I was told that the fuel pump is sending too much fuel on the rail & that i should to get a adjustable fuel pressure regulator. There is also a lack of power as i am not feeling the car come on boost when i floor it but the boost gauge shows that it is making the stock boost @ 5-7 psi. I think I am having an electrical problem with the either tps, airflow meter & oxygen sensor. What could be the cause of these & how i could fix them? This is getting really annoying as I am unable to fully enjoy the benefits of the BPT motor

What injectors are you running? What VAF (air flow meter) are you using too? Have you checked for codes? It could be a bunch of stuff man.

a 255lph pump will not cause ANY extra fuel pressure or extra fuel to go into the engine in any way. it just gives you more headroom to not run out of fuel pressure at high boost/rpm.
again, what injectors are you running? which FPR? do you have any way to test fuel pressure? which vaf are you running, have you adjusted it at all?Escort GTR -- 11.87 @ 117.6 mph -- 320 HP / 325 Ft. Lbs. @ 23 PSI

Old post but i had to share what was the casue of my problem for those who may encounter similar problems. I found out that the tps was position wrong. The dial on the tps were placed on top of the tabs on the throttle body causing the ecu to read at wide open throttle on start up, thus causing the excessive black smoke & not reving out smoothly. The drives and rev out a bit better than b4, i now have poor gas consumption to sort out. I think i am in need of a tune up but i need to check some parts first. How can i test the coolant temp sensor & o2 sensor to see if they are working properly.
1. On start up car throttle a little high then settles when engine warms up. This is what i use to assume that the coolant temp sensor is working not sure if that is correct way.
2. I have a lean/rich gauge installed and i am getting readings of it on start up ( 1 bar from fulling up on the rich side when warm up on idle) and during driving. Again this is what i use to assume that the o2 sensor is working not sure if that is correct way.

To test your coolant temp sensor you need to remove it, place it in a pot, and bring the water up to normal operating temp while checking resistance making sure it changes as temperature rises.
To check your o2 sensor, you have to use a volt meter to test it, i cannot remember what the numbers are supposed to be at.
Both parts are easily under $20 (universal o2 sensor) so it won't cost much to replace them in the long run as well.
your lean/rich gauge will not tell you much, if anything, narrowband gauges are not accurate.
your idle should be high during start up fyi, that is the IAC doing its job.
If your idle is still high, you can check your ignition timing, which should be around 8-10*
