Anyone using knock sensor with MS?

I'm thinking about getting the knocksense kit. Anyone have it?

I have a knocksense kit that I have not installed. Super good quality for sure.
I live my life a quarter pounder at a time. And for those 500 calories or more, I'm free. I need FRIES! Two of them. The big ones. Oh, and I need them tonight. You're lucky the double shot of BBQ sauce didn't blow the seam on your nugget box. There she is, 2 pounds of pure beef. My dad ate it in 9.0 seconds flat. Check it out, it's like this. If I lose, winner takes my happy meal. But if I win, I take the burger and the toy. To some people, that's more important.

ive thaught about buying one just because you can tune the sensitivity of it, maybe get it to atleast be less sensitive than attempting to hook up a stock one....lol...

I'm thinkin you could get it to be pretty accurate using a stethoscope detcan to adjust it.

              Thoughts?

i have it on my fe3. pretty straight forward. has a little red LED, and a headphone jack you can use for tuning. but its pretty touchy. with me on coilovers and my suspension set up, the LED will go off when i hit a big bump. lol.

The knocksense is a very simple filter for a wideband knock sensor. Unfortunately the sensitivity is not tunable with respect to RPM which is important as the engine gets quite a bit noisier in the higher RPM.

A very good knock sensor requires a very good/tunable filtering circuit or it will either be too sensitive and always mis-trigger or only be sensitive enough during extreme detonation.

The location of the sensor matters as well.

There are better solutions than the Knocksense unit while some people can get it to be functional on their setup.

We are hoping to build a more tunable knock filtering unit in the near future but that's still a ways off.

I just decided to build my own.

I have a circuit drawn up in multisim. I'll load it up so you can check it out.

My plan is to use a pic18 microcontroller that will take in the knock sensor's voltage outputs and determine when the frequency is of a knock condition.

Thats the problem with the knocksense, it doesn't account for change in frequency. Its just based on a rise in voltage output.

i have to agree. the knocksense is why to touchy. if you can afford to. the J and S safeguard knock unit would be the optimum way to go.

You can nail down the frequency fairly easily and it is heavily dependent on engine bore. The issue is engine noise as the RPMs rise that starts to enter the same frequency band as knock.
