anyone ever play with det cans?

heres a few links to what i could find from the guy making them on miataturbo

ECUs and Tuning - Gauging Interest - Inexpensive Electronic Det Cans - It seems to me that there have been quite a few threads centering around detonation lately. A few people have popped motors in the last year or so due to knock, and in a few of those instances I've heard the phrase but I didn't hear any knock...

Miata parts for sale/trade - Electronic Det-Cans - Group Buy...ish - Finally the time has come, these are officially going on sale. For those of you who are just now hearing about this, allow me to review: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Sound quality is excellent, even better...

Miata parts for sale/trade - Detcans V2 - Its taken me longer than expected due to a new job, but I finally managed to churn out a batch of revised detcans. I took feedback from the last batch and incorporated it into the new design. No more cheesy Velcro battery tie-down, a 9v battery holder is now integrated into...

for 60 bucks, its worth a shot, i have to tune a miata for 93, and i might as well make a good spark map for mine when i cant get to e85 some day...lol...

ill start a new thread after i get a set, and add in some sound clips incase anyone else want to try these. but till then, whats peoples thaughts on these? the miata guys seem to be all over them... its more a gasoline tuning item, but im sure you could hear some knock if you crank the e85 spark map way too high..lol...

ya i just thaught id start this thread cause of people who have never heard of these, or tried them. it could be a good thing for some people here that are using megasquirt to tune with to get a better more aggressive spark map than just using stuff they find online, or from others tunes...

              ever use an automotive stethescope?

works exactly the same way as the hondatech/neon detcan. sound coming through the stethescopes is unbelievably clear and LOUD. no volume control/filter/battery needed, and I bet you hear the sounds being produced actually BETTER than the electronic version, because your ear will hear the entire range of sound being produced, and not have it artificially limited by the frequencies used in the electronics.

the electronic version does look pretty slick, though, I kinda like it.

ive seen people use that kind too, ive found threads about long hose to the side of the block..lol.. that just sounded goofy to me, and filters arent always bad. hes atleast figured out what frequencies to separate, i know the new ones hes making have bandpass filters in them....
