ms c16 exploded

    ms c16 exploded

    so i was playing around with the car and blew the fuse going to the computer. Telling myself i'm glad i put the fuse there i tightened the battery cables better (key in beeping was dull) and putting in a new fuse car started just as it had before. Since this was the first fuse i've heard pop (and the fact it was sitting as close as humanly possible to me when it went) i didn't know they weren't supposed to sound like a handful of firecrackers going off at once. I've driven the car around town on what is probably the safest tune possible. well i finally went to finalize the building of the ms box when i picked it up and heard rattling.

    turns out c16 exploded, no big deal, just google that and... some people have had that problem too, just a voltage spike or somethin, put in a new one and it works for a year or so... problem is, i noticed 2 burn spots on the board, and radioshack doesn't carry this exact capacitor (I can order one from diy, just want my car running sooner)

    it kinda just looks like the piece that exploded hit the board, it doesnt look like anything to worry about. one spots just the proto area, which you arent using, but just make sure the smaller spot isnt into a trace or anything... you running ms3?

      i was kinda thinking that the burn spots mighta been hot parts of the capacitor... dunno much about how the board and stuff is constructed, and ya, i'm using ms3

        take a q tip with a dab of rubbing alcohol and clean the black spots, see how far into the pcb they went. i wouldnt worry about it tho.... and ya i kinda figured ms3, i seen the extra stand off's that i know arent on mine....lol...

          maybe i should open mine up.. never have and have had it for over 4 years.. thers something rattling in there but its been that way as long as i can remember..

            wait why are you running a cap in the boot jumper?!?!? thats an MS1 thing, remove it as that can cause alot of the issues you described
